Voter Registration Deadline
You do not need to register again if you are already registered at your current address. You can check your registration online. Registration is closed in the 21 days before general or primary elections and in the 13 days before special elections held at a time other than a general election.
If you miss this deadline, you can register and vote at the same time during early voting and on election day. This is called Same Day Registration. Learn More.
Eligibility to Vote
All U.S. citizen residents of Virginia aged 18 years or older, or who will be 18 by the next general election, are eligible to register to vote, provided they have not been convicted of a felony or judged by a court as mentally incapacitated.
Register or Change my Political Party Affiliation
In Virginia, you do not register by political party. Any registered voter is eligible to vote in any primary election. If both the Democratic and Republican parties hold primaries on the same day, voters must choose which party ballot they wish to vote.
